Math I Information

At H.J. MacDonald during a student’s 8thgrade year, students are able to be placed into an advanced Math course, Math 1. Here students will skip the NC 8thgrade Math and begin taking what is generally considered 9thgrade Math. 

 

Math 1 teacher: Mr. Hodges 

 

If you are interested in taking Math 1 as an 8th grader at HJ MacDonald please review the following:
 

  • If a student receives a level 5 on the Math EOG, they will automatically be placed in Math 1. If the parent does not wish for them to be placed in Math 1, a written request to drop the class must be given to the school.
  • If there are not enough level 5 students to fill all the seats, then those students who scored a level 4 on their Math EOG may fill those seats. The following areas will be looked at when determining placement:
    • Teacher Recommendation
    • 7thGrade Math scores
    • Math 1 Placement Test Score
    • Ability to show essential skills needed for Math 1
