Guidance Counseling

Note from Counselors:

We hope that everyone continues to be safe during this anxious time, and that our students are able to continue to learn even while they are at home. Our teachers are working hard to ensure that our students are able to access an exceptional virtual learning experience. We want you to know  that we are here for our HJM Warcub Family.

As counselors, we would like to continue the support of our students' emotional, personal and social welfare by being available from 8:30 to 3:30 on ZOOM. The ZOOM app can be  downloaded on the school iPads and chats can be initiated with your counselors. Counselors will be avaialable from 8:30 - 3:30, Mon-Fri. Further instructions on how to sign-up for and use ZOOM, can be found using this link. Students need to use their school email when signing up/in. Counselors on ZOOM can be contacted by using counselors' school e-mail address.

Benefits to contacting counselors using ZOOM:

- Clarification on work expectations by being a liaison between student and teachers.

- Keeping in touch by using check-ins.

- Opportunity to verbalize frustrations, ie. having someone there for you.

- Direction regarding enrolling a student at this time.

Limitations of virtual counseling:

- Dealing with mental health issues is difficult without physical access and face-to-face contact.

- Addressing incidents involving bullying in the community or on social media.

- Inability to provide a more challenging school work experience.

- Needing or wanting individual time daily.

- Confidentiality of chat sessions may be limited due to access of members in both households.

Students and/or Parents should:

- Inform their parents that they are contacting their counselor.

- Communicate online in a mutually respectful manner. Should this not occur, contact/sessions will be terminated.

- Choose to manage emergencies from their home using resources listed below. In the event that you need to access your counselor because of an emergency, please contact 911 or review available resources below.
